Don't forget to follow us on Twitter for the very latest hunting news for the 2009 season.

UCO MONTANA HUNTING REPORT: One more week and it will be opening day of rifle season.  Scouting for elk and things look good. We had a good archery season three nice bulls and lots of excitement with all our hunters.  We are now busy scouting, grocery shopping, shoeing horses and taking care of last minute details before the rifle season starts next week.  Seen one group of 60 elk and a number of other smaller herds.  It always amazes me how they can hide so well, I think they know when the season is about to start so they come out tease me and than go and hide.  Weather for the first week looks like the 40 & 50's during the day.  Hope it gets colder and we get snow.  Keep thinking snow.

UCO SUMMER REPORT: As we look back on the 2009 summer - It was a fantastic year.  Fishing was good all summer, horseback trips had lots of wild flowers with all the rain and our Quest Week was more than we ever imagined.

Now as I put another log on the fire we look back on the summer and wish for some of that warm weather and we are already starting to book clients for the 2010 season.

fff7.jpgUCO MONTANA FLY FISHING REPORT: Had a good summer of fly fishing we had plenty of water this year due to a good snowpack and a wet spring.  Flows are still high with lots of cool water in the rivers.  The temperatures has been perfect for fall fishing.  As the season came to the end we had a number of clients that came close to catching the UCO Grand Slam.  Marilyn Sheppard aka the "Grayling Queen" came very close to completing the challenge.   On the first day of fishing Marilyn caught a Brown, a Rainbow, a Westslope Cutthroat, Cutbow and a Whitefish.  She only had the Artic Graeyling and Brook Trout to complete her Grand Slam for the week.  Well the "Grayling Queen worked hard the next four days with her favorite fly the Royal Wulff and our guide Lance to complete her goal.  She did catch a number of Graeyling, but not the Brook.  As this was all going on her husband Rex was very patient just wishing for another trip to the Ennis Pharmacy for his favorite ice cream.   It was a fun way to wrap up the summer and to top it off Larry Sledge caught a very nice 21 inch Brown.  Another great year on the Ruby River.

Martha Stewart visits Upper Canyon Outfitters   As we were about to call it a summer Martha Stewart showed up with a few of her friends and we had a wonderful time.  Check out her blog from Aug. 31 and see pictures of Val and I taking Martha for a hike.  Also check out the "Let's take a Hike" on the web and catch some our our beautiful scenery http://www.marthastewart.com/show/the-martha-stewart-show/the-montana-show

CATTLE DRIVE, HORESES AND QUEST WEEK:  This year we had a outstanding Cattle Drive week the guest had a fantastic time. Lots of good weather, moved and sorted cattle, enjoyed live music, BBQ's, participated in a ranch rodeo and rode in some outstanding country doing the job like it was in the 1800's.

Daily Horse Back Riding: Taking lots of horseback trips into the mountains, with the additional rain this year everything is green and the flowers as still in bloom.

Quest Week was also outstanding along with  learning about new horse skills and lots of riding the guest enjoyed some remarkable hikes, fly fishing and learning how to relax, and look at life in a new light and listen to the positive voices inside you. Take time to be who you where created to be. The ladies took home with them life lessons that will guide them every day during their life's.

I hope you can join us in Montana - hunt, fish, hike, go horseback riding; just sit back and enjoy the beauty of Southwest Montana! May your choices of activities be so many at UCO that you will be making so many memories for you to look back and cherish forever. That is our job; to make your dreams come true.

We look forward to visiting with you on our front porch.
