Fish It

Summer: Lodging, Meals, and Fly Fishing Every Day.
The Ruby River runs through our backyard, offering some of the best fly fishing in southwest Montana. Our experienced guides know every bend, every hatch, and where to find wild trout throughout the season. Whether you walk and wade a mountain creek or float the Madison, you’ll fish some of Montana’s most productive trout waters.

Hunt It

Fall: Lodging, Meals, and Guided or Unguided Hunts.
Over 800,000 acres of wilderness starts right outside our door. From elk to mule deer, whitetail, and antelope, the country holds them all. We offer both guided and unguided hunting trips across terrain our family has managed for over a century. Hunting elevations reach up to 9,000 feet — country as challenging as it is rewarding.

Montana is a state of endless adventure for guests who want to discover it all. Fish the Ruby and surrounding waters, ride into the mountains on horseback, take a guided hike or explore the backcountry on a side-by-side tour, learn the rich history of a valley once traveled by Lewis and Clark, and connect with our horses through Equine Facilitated Wellness.

Experience the lands of the Old West the way they were first explored — on horseback. Our wranglers guide you through mountain trails, creek crossings, and valley rides suited for every skill level. Our Equine Facilitated Wellness sessions offer a deeper connection with the horses and yourself.

Summer: Lodging, Meals, and a Customized Agenda.
Not sure which package fits? Build your own. Start with lodging and meals, then add only the activities you want — guided fly fishing, horseback rides, 4×4 tours, hiking, and more. Prefer to explore on your own or simply relax at the ranch? That’s perfectly fine too. The flexibility is the point.

About the Ranch

Upper Canyon Outfitters sits in the Ruby Valley of southwest Montana, surrounded by the Snowcrest, Greenhorn, and Gravelly mountain ranges.

Guests come for the fishing, the hunting, the riding, and the wide-open country. What surprises most of them is how much they also remember the people. The guide who knew exactly where to put them on the river. The conversations at the bar before dinner. The table where people who had never met on Sunday are exchanging numbers by Friday.
