Upper Canyon Outfitters is nestled between three major Rocky Mountain Ranges, the Snowcrest Range on the south, the Greenhorns on the north and the Gravellys just to the east.  The three mountain ranges come together to form a canyon right at our ranch and that is how we became known as the Upper Canyon Ranch.  The Ruby River flows between the mountains through our property for over two miles.  On a topographic map you will find us as the “Tate Place”   we are the third generation on the ranch.  We are on the edge of the Beaverhead National Forest and twenty four miles south of Alder, Montana.
I do hope this helps you to pin-point our location.  When you live in the mountains and your neighbor is the wildlife surrounding the ranch – you don’t need a street address.

Driving directions to Upper Canyon Outfitters:

Turn left in Alder on road next to Alder Mart go toward the Ruby Dam, once past the Dam, the road will turn into Gravel.  Stay on this road. This is the main Ruby River Road, there are a few roads that go off to the right stay on the main road which is the road to the left or the Upper Ruby Road. The ranch is 24 miles south of Alder.  There is 12 miles of pavement and then 12 miles of gravel. 

From Bozeman:  The most scenic route to the ranch is to go through Bozeman and get on 84 West to Norris at Norris continue traveling on 287 to Ennis. (You’ll make a left hand turn.)  At Ennis head toward Virginia City and Nevada City, then on into Alder.

From Butte: Take Hwy 90 at Whitehall go through town to the West end and you will see a road to Virginia City # 41 to #287 you will go through Silver Star, Twin Bridges, Sheridan and then on into Alder. 

From Dillon: Take Hwy  #41 South East to Twin Bridges.  At Twin Bridges take Hwy  #287  South through Sheridan and then on into Alder.

DRIVE ALL THE WAY TO ALDER: DO NOT LISTEN TO YOUR GPS – IT WILL TAKE YOU ON VERY BAD ROADS.
