Summer Adventures

Welcome to Upper Canyon Outfitters (UCO) is a family operated ranch located in the upper Ruby Valley. The ranch is nestled between three beautiful mountain ranges, with the Ruby River meandering through the property. We are dedicated to providing unparalleled, successful trips for each of our guests. The Tate family has been enjoying the Ruby Valley since our grandfather homesteaded here in 1910.

We would like to share with you not only our ranch that sits at 6000 feet, lush forest, soaring peaks to 10,000 feet and breathtaking scen­ery, but also our commitment to quality by providing a truly unforgettable Montana experience.

With our secluded location we can offer mile after mile of world-class scenery, horseback riding adventures, cattle drives, exceptional fly fishing opportunities, native wildlife, hiking, history and homestead tours. Our lodge consists of six private rooms and four private cabins with kitchens along the banks of the Ruby River. Our guests take pleasure in the home cooked meals and the relaxing atmosphere at the ranch. The 2012 Summer Season at Upper Canyon Outfitters starts off our season in June and runs through September. Beginning July 1 through August we offer local history tours, special horse events, hiking tours, fly fishing, and evening activities. Listed below are our all-inclusive packages, as well as our daily rates and special event weeks. We can customize a special package to suite your individual needs.  

All this is only 40 minutes from historic Virginia City and two hours from Yellowstone Park. We hope to share with you our family western hospitality and a true Montana vacation

Our fisherman enjoy the Ruby River which meanders through the property alone with our private fly fishing pond loaded with active Rainbow Trout. Full time fly fishing guides are always at the ranch willing to help you with your fishing needs.

When you think of the “Old West” you think of horses and here at UCO we take pride in our horse activities and use our horses not only for pleasure, but to help us with our ranch chores.
