Women's Week

womensweek.jpgUpper Canyon Outfitters is offering a Women’s Outdoor Skills Workshop which is designed to instruct and enlighten women on how to become proficient in living as one with the earth through balance and harmony that Native Peoples throughout the world have known for centuries. If you have a love of the outdoors, enjoy nature, or are just looking for a closer attachment to the natural world around you, this week long Workshop will show you the way.

Not only will you learn from skilled instructors, you will also have the opportunity to see the world through the “eyes of the horse” which will be your companion for the week. Getting to know horses and their habits along with other animals will develop a deeper understanding to their communication abilities and the world in which they live.

Learn the skill of flyfishing, basic entomology, how to read the currents of a river and what the fish feed on throughout the year, all within the relaxing and gentle flow of the Ruby River as it meanders through the valley.

womens_week1.jpgThe family unit – the single most important and life dominating experience is slowly giving way to increased work schedules, fast pace living and lack of interest in the natural world. We are finding out as a society, that we are becoming more dependant on widespread technology, man-made materials, and having someone look after us in a disaster or emergency. The Native peoples once depended on their instincts and what mother nature provided to maintain a balance and survive on a daily basis. It is something we are not aware of in today’s world. This class will give you the opportunity to connect with the part of nature and wilderness that modern society often neglects.

To often women find themselves sheltered from the natural world and out of place within a wilderness environment. With increased wilderness awareness, it would be difficult to live intimately with the land, for even a short period of time, and not sense the beauty  and spirituality of the natural world.

Some of the things that you will learn during the week.

  • Reduce stress through Nature Observation
  • Wildlife watching along with edible and medicinal plants
  • Flyfishing techniques and hands-on fishing
  • Outdoor survival skills and Wilderness philosophy
  • Wilderness meditation and Native Philosophy
  • How to become keenly aware of your surroundings on a physical and spiritual level
  • Horsemanship, riding skills and trail rides into the surrounding mountains
  • Enhance personal and interpersonal skills
  • Animal tracking, signs and habits
  • Increase self confidence and the awareness of oneself
  • Learn to explore the cycles and rhythms of the wilderness
  • History of the surrounding area and much more!

women_wk2.jpgCamaraderie with other women in a supportive and non-threatening atmosphere along with splendid food and accommodations add up to an ideal experience for women. Building self confidence to take your children into the wilderness is the best insurance policy you can give yourself and your family.

Don’t miss this chance to experience the Great Outdoors with new people, new challenges, new adventures while having the time of your life doing it!

We want to help you relax, have a good time, and surprise yourself with the skills you possess. You will never look at the earth the same way. Won’t you join us?
